a dog waits for his master. her senses alert, the nose tracking the scent, the eyes focusing on the entry, the ear closest to the door discerning every sound, expectant of any sign of his arrival. the dog and the man are performing the habitual ritual of going to the store. as they approached the entry, the man walked up to the public telephone. in a brilliant display of athleticism, the dog double-jumped, first up the man’s belly and then again up to the very top of the phone booth, all in one swift action. owning her spot up there at the top, she surveys the land and awaits for his return.
