2. la carreta tica
carretas are the beautiful hand-painted ox carts ubiquitous back home in the costa rican countryside. they were recently named ‘intangible cultural heritage of humanity by unesco’. their beauty is not only in its color, intricate patterns and joinery, but in the utilitarian use and symbol that these carry, a snapshot of an age gone by, an age we must all learn again from; a preindustrial age where we worked more attuned with the planet we inhabited. depicted here is a detail of an authentic 1800’s wheel of the carreta. showing the marks of time and hard labor, the paint and detail still shines honorably.
